When Suzana Lange and I founded @RADI, it was important to us to work a bit differently. We didn’t want to build another classic company with clear hierarchies, but a network where we could work with people we trust, based on their expertise. And where collaboration with partners & clients actually happens on eye level.
That idea still shapes how we work today. A lot of our projects sit somewhere between structuring programmes and partnerships, making sense of what’s working (and what isn’t) through evaluation or knowledge management, and setting up and using digital tools that actually support day-to-day collaboration (for example websites, learning platforms or community spaces). Our focus is less on adding complexity, more on creating setups that people can realistically use and maintain. Meaningful collaboration is always at the core.
A lot of this is influenced by different approaches to organizational development we learned the past years. For us, self-organization is not about removing structure, but about distributing responsibility in a way that actually works in practice. We focus on simple, role-based structures, shared responsibility, and continuous learning – all while still creating enough clarity and orientation so collaboration doesn’t drift into endless coordination.
So for me, how we work should always reflect what we value. That means taking our work seriously, while keeping a sense of energy and curiosity, focusing on what actually works in practice. It also means creating a space to think, test and adjust together, while building structures that keep projects moving in a reliable way. In the end, it’s about combining clarity, responsibility and a certain personal connection – so that our shared work is not only effective, but also makes sense for the people involved.
